ADBI 1700 Special Topics: Science of Human Performance

This course explores the scientific principles that govern how the human body produces, uses, and conserves energy during rest, daily activity, and exercise, from the molecular level of metabolism to whole-body performance and health. Students examine how the major energy systems, cardiovascular and thermoregulatory responses, and nutritional inputs interact to shape adaptation, resilience, and risk across different environments and populations. Through structured engagement with primary and secondary research, quantitative problem-solving, and case-based scenarios, students develop scientific literacy about human performance science and its technological applications, while critically evaluating the strengths and limitations of current evidence.
