ADEN 1830 Special Topics: AI & the Professional Self: Communication, Ethics, and Identity in the Age of GenAI

AI and the Professional Self examines how artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies are reshaping professional communication, responsibility, and identity across fields. Rather than focusing on how to use specific AI tools, the course centers on how professionals, both early in their careers and in leadership roles, make difficult decisions when new technologies disrupt established norms and expectations. Through the analysis of real-world case studies drawn from business, technology, and other professional contexts, students will develop the judgment needed to evaluate when AI meaningfully supports professional work, when it does not, and how those choices reflect deeper values and ethical commitments. The goal of the course is to help students engage confidently and critically with AI-shaped workplaces and are able to distinguish signal from noise and to articulate informed positions about technologys role in their future work.
