Restrictions. The course is restricted to APSY majors who are Juniors and Seniors and have completed at least 12 APSY credit hours prior to the semester of Applied Psychology Practicum (APSY2152) enrollment. The course provides an introduction to the applications of psychological theory within various human and community service contexts. Readings and discussions contribute to critical analyses of how social issues and social problems are situated differently across gender, race, social class, and diversities of language, ability, sexuality, etc. Students volunteer for approximately 8-12 hours per week at a practicum site, selected in partnership with the Office of Field Placement and Partnership Outreach, and attend a weekly seminar for which they complete reading and written assignments that integrate theory and practice.Early registration is strongly encouraged to ensure support in finding a practicum placement. Students who do not secure a placement by the university add/drop date cannot continue in the course. All students registered for APSY2152 must complete this online application. After completing the application, you will be invited to a mandatory meeting with the Office of Field Placement and Partnership Outreach to discuss arrangements for your practicum experience. All practicum placements must be approved and confirmed by the Office of Field Placement and Partnership Outreach. Students can find more information about the practicum processHERE.
