Sculpting the Figure

This course will provide an introduction to the process of three dimensional design in Sculpture. We will explore the process of 3D design in the round, and in relief, focusing mainly on the human figure as vehicle of design. The course will look at the components that come together to make up a sculpture in the round and in relief. These components include: Movement, light and shadow, distortion, scale, color, placement and Material. We will construct maquettes (models) on a scale that will allow us to solve the diverse problems of design. These maquettes will be made of clay mainly, but we will also use other materials like wood, cardboard, wire, and whatever our imagination requires. An exercise in problem solving and critical thinking supported through lectures, discussions, presentations, and reading. Enabling us to explore the process of making a physical object from our imagination.
