Inflammation and Disease

Inflammation is the body's normal immune response to a variety of injuries. The principal aim of this course is to explore the relationship between the inflammatory response and a host of human diseases, including cardiovascular, autoimmune, musculoskeletal and digestive medical conditions, and cancer. The biology and physiology of acute inflammation, triggers of the immune response, onset of chronic inflammation and the role of chronic inflammation in the development of disease will be discussed using primary literature. Pre-requisites: BIOL2000, BIOL2040. Additional 3000-level and above coursework in molecular and cellular biology is recommended.
