COMM 2334 AI, Human Behavior, and Communication Design

This course may be used to satisfy one of four electives required for the Communication major. From ChatGPT conversations to Claude chats to Instagram's algorithm, AI systems are shaping how we think, decide, and relate to others. This course examines how AI-driven technologies are designed to influence human psychology and behavior. Students will analyze AI platforms (social media algorithms, chatbots, recommendation systems) to understand both how companies design these systems and how people actually engage with and reshape them. Drawing on behavioral psychology, media studies, and design theory, the course combines academic and applied frameworks. Topics include trust formation with AI systems, workplace AI dynamics, and strategies for conscious engagement. Students develop critical thinking skills for navigating an AI-integrated world while gaining practical knowledge about communication technology design
