Economics of Health Insurance

This course will explore the economics of health insurance, as well as related insurance markets such as disability insurance, long-term care insurance, life insurance, and longevity insurance. We will discuss the purpose of insurance and the pitfalls faced by individuals, insurance companies, and the government in meeting those goals. Students will apply lessons in microeconomics and econometrics to understand the design of health and related insurance products in the United States, the different paths to coverage, and public policy around these insurance markets, with an emphasis on current issues.
