EDUC 3206 Catholic Schools in Theory and Practice: A Reflective Experiential Course Examining Catholic Schooling Through a CST lens

This experiential course asks students to adopt a criticallly, reflective stance and an intentional Catholic Social Teaching (CST) perspective. The course includes 21 hours of class time and 60 hours of site-based experiential learning. The essential questions for this are: 1. What does teaching and learning look like in a Catholic school classroom? 2. How do we analyze Catholic Schools and classroom through a CST lens? To help participants address these questions, this course will offer students the opportunity to learn about CST, to have a deep and authentic Catholic school classroom experience, and to participate in a safe space for guided critical reflection. Throughout this course, participants will be encouraged to critically engage in the analysis of Catholic schooling through the lens of CST. Course objectives are designed to enable participants to leave the semester having considered the role that Catholic schooling has played and currently plays in the United States and the relevance of Catholic schooling moving forward.
