The Study and Writing of History: Post-1950s Boston Social Movements

History Major Standing.Boston continues to be home to vibrant social movements for education, labor, housing, environmental, and economic justice. The class will primarily focus on how African Americans, Latina/os, Asian Americans, and other residents of the city utilize a variety of strategies and ideas for helping their communities. Students will engage recent literature to historicize the social issues, movements, organizations, and groups of Bostonians since the 1950s, seeking to better society. We will work closely with archivists and utilize digital repositories to examine campus activism, as well as movements that extend beyond BCs walls. This is a research and writing-intensive course.
