HIST 4235 A Nation Once Again: Irish Cultural Nationalism
The course examines the dynamics of Irish nationalism as a case study of European nationalism at large. The focus is on romantic-cultural nationalism, as it developed over the long-nineteenth century and into the twentieth century, producing changing political identities. Literature, drama, art, song, language and sports propagated by radical political movements and cultural organizations in Ireland and across Irish diasporas will be evaluated in comparative perspectives, exposing transnational influences.
