Age of the American Revolution

Fulfills the US requirement for History Majors.The revolutionary crisis in British America started small - as an arcane debate over parliamentary taxation - but by the end of the eighteenth century had helped to create a new world order. It created a new nation, divided what had been a remarkably cohesive British Empire, and provided a salient example to other people fighting against arbitrary power in such diverse locales as France, Ireland, and St. Domingue. This class will examine the causes, course, and outcomes of the Revolution - not just in the future United States, but from Europe to the Caribbean and the North American interior.
