HIST 5460 Senior Colloquium: Student Activism in 20th and 21st Century America

Senior History Major Standing. University and high school students continue to be at the forefront of social movements in the U.S. Campuses continue to serve as incubators for identity formation while becoming a staging ground for ideas of race, nation, culture, and more. This course centers student activism from diverse ideological backgrounds to introduce struggles over curriculum and for educational rights across time and space. We will engage the fields of Critical University Studies and Ethnic Studies to interrogate how campuses become spaces of liberation and repression. Students will write a historiographical paper on a topic of their choice related to the class themes.
