INTL 2316 Deep Asia

Deep Asia invites students to take Asia seriously not as a static region or broad survey topic, but as a site from which to rethink politics, geography, race, gender, migration, and environmental change. Moving across East, Central, and South Asia and along the routes that connect Asia to Africa and the West, the course explores how Asian geographies unsettle dominant theories and shift where knowledge is produced. Through work on China, Japan, India, diasporas, climate, feminist thought, and Afro-Asian solidarities, students gain a richer global perspective. For Boston College students, it offers rigorous interdisciplinary inquiry and a fresh way to think about the world from Asia.
