LAWS 8981 Housing Court Lawyer for the Day Clinic

In this clinical course, students advise and represent low-income clients in eviction matters in Housing Court under close, supportive supervision. Clinic participants are court-certified as Student Attorneys. Their practice is based at the Boston College Legal Services LAB, a law firm that is part of BC Law's Center for Experiential Learning. Supervision will consist of weekly supervision meetings and additional meetings on an as-needed basis to prepare for, attend, and debrief events. Through practice and confronting a series of inevitable " firsts," students rapidly develop both confidence and competence as lawyers. The seminar component of the clinic will cover a full range of litigation skills (client interviewing, case planning, informal fact investigation, discovery, case assessment, pleading, client counseling, negotiating, and courtroom advocacy), as well as the full array of ethics and professionalism moments and tensions litigators experience in practice.
