LING 2360 Linguistic Structure of Algonquian Languages

This course focuses on the linguistic structure of the Algonquian family, a group of around 30 languages historically spoken across the northern North American continent, from present-day Montana and Alberta to eastern Canada and much of the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S. including Boston! Many Algonquian languages are still spoken today, though most are at high risk of being lost. The course will introduce concepts in linguistics and how they relate to the structure of Algonquian languages, as well as culture, history, and language revitalization within Algonquian communities.
