Popular Music
Our nations history has been mirrored and influenced by an influx of popular music styles from around the world. This course will provide a broad overview of commercial popular music in the United States after the advent of recording technology, when today's globalized music industry took shape. Through this broad overview of pop's history, technologies, and styles, students will learn to analyze common song forms, listen for timbre and instrumentation, engage with current academic research on popular music, write in the style of a music critic, and reflect on the role of popular music in the formation of their sense of self.MUSA2310 replaces MUSA1300 History of Popular Music.
