PHIL 6235 Aquinas on Science and Nature

This course will consider Aquinass account of the definition and methods of the sciences in connection with the role of nature in defining the subject matter of the sciences and the use of the categories of nature and motion from Aristotles Physics to adumbrate both human and divine actions and qualities and as undergirding Aquinas notion of natural law. These notions and uses of the concept of nature will be examined in light of Aquinass theological views about human nature, the fall and grace.
