Phenomenology of Art
Discussion of phenomenological theories of art and aesthetics from Heidegger and Sartre to Merleau-Ponty and Bachelard. Close readings of texts with primary emphasis on the aesthetic essays of Merleau-Ponty. The course also includes comparison of the phenomenological and structuralist and post-structuralist approaches to art and literature.
