POLI 2308 Freedom And Tyranny In American Politics

Few ideals are more crucial to the American project than freedom. But what does freedom mean? What has it meant to Americans of previous generations? How have conceptions of freedom changed, emerged, and eroded? How has freedom interacted with other ideals, such as equality and individualism, and democracy? Finally, how have Americans understood freedoms opposite - tyranny? These are among the questions with which we will grapple in this course.
