PSYC 3318 Case Studies in Cognitive Neuroscience

This course examines the history and current practice of cognitive neuroscience andneuropsychology through its most influential case studies: individuals whose brain injuries, developmental differences, or neurological conditions have shaped our understanding ofmemory, language, perception, emotion, and consciousness. Rather than proceedingtopic-by-topic through a standard textbook, the course is organized around canonical patientsand syndromes, using each as a lens into broader theoretical debates and methodologicaldevelopments in the field. Students will read primary source literature, evaluate case-studymethodology as a form of scientific evidence, and connect historical findings to contemporaryneuroimaging and computational approaches.
