PSYC 5594 AI and the Human Experience

Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), is becoming deeply woven into the fabric of human experienceshaping how we think, feel, communicate, work, and understand ourselves. This discussion-based seminar explores the intersection of AI and the human experience, with a particular focus on psychology research. We will critically examine recent studies and debates, considering how advances in AI might deepen our understanding of the human mind and experienceand potentially transform them, for better or worse. Topics span emotion and empathy, cognition and decision-making, creativity, identity, relationships, and wellbeing. Through this lens, the seminar invites reflection on the broader implications of AI for what it means to think, feel, connect, and flourish as humans in an age of AI.
