SOCY 3083 The Paradox of Education: Opportunity and Inequality
Education in America is in crisis. Achievement is declining relative to our global peers; DEI, the humanities, and social sciences are under attack; new technologies undermine learning; and racial segregation in schools remains a thorny issue intertwined with persistent inequalities. This course examines the tension between education as an opportunity for financial stability and upward mobility, and as a source of social inequality in this important historical context.
