SOCY 5118 Theory-Driven Qualitative Research

This course immerses students in theory-driven qualitative research methods, with particular attention to field observations, in-depth interviews, and archival research. Such methods are presented not as a way to generate or test theory, but as a means of reconstructing theory in response to empirical anomalies. Designed for sociology graduate students and sociology majors enrolled in the honors program, this course helps students launch a theory-driven case study for a masters or honors thesis. Other students are encouraged to contact the professor prior to registration.
