THTR1049

Advanced Production Lab: Stage Manager Prep

This is the Prep Lab portion of the Stage Manager Lab. You must also register for THTR 1029, the Run Lab portion. Once students gain experience as an assistant stage manager (at least twice, except for special circumstances), they may advance to the Stage Management lab. The stage manager works alongside the director on a production and is in charge of organizing rehearsals, communicating with the production team, and running performances. Stage managers plan each rehearsal with the director, create rehearsal schedules, keep track of blocking, costume and prop needs, and distribute rehearsal reports to theatre staff and designers. This lab represents a graded credit for your preparation for and participation in regular rehearsals and production meetings, including collaborating with professional designers, staff, and students. Stage managers are assigned at the end of the previous academic school year to stage manage one of the six Theatre Department productions. This lab requires department permission and significant production experience. Stage managers at BC work alongside students and professionals alike and are considered leaders within the department.
