THTR 4462 Playwriting II

Attendance at local productions of new plays is expected. This laboratory course continues the work begun in Playwriting I on an advanced level and a more independent basis. In addition to in-class writing and take-home assignments, students will write a full-length play or two complete one-acts. Short assignments will explore voice, autobiography, and adaptation. Students will read and discuss playwriting theory, as well as recent nationally recognized plays to understand the context of their work in contemporary American theatre. This course will also prepare students to be a collaborative playwright in the rehearsal room.
