Christina Mcrorie
Associate Professor of Moral Theology
Biography
Christina McRorie is associate professor of moral theology at the Boston College Clough School of Theology and Ministry. Her research is in the areas of fundamental moral theology and Catholic social thought, and takes up questions about how our moral agency and character relate to our social contexts, including within markets. In 2026, she published The World of Markets: A Theology of Moral Agency in Economic Life, which engages economic research on decision-making in markets to identify the conditions under which markets support our growth in character, and under which they do the opposite. The World of Markets approaches this through the lens of Catholic reflection on “the world,” ultimately describing markets as ambiguous worlds that mediate both sin and grace through their influences on our moral agency. Christina has served on the board of directors of the Society of Christian Ethics, and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Moral Theology and the Journal of Catholic Social Thought . Starting in 2027, she will serve as co-editor of the Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics . In 2026, she joined the North American AI Research Group sponsored the Vatican’s Dicastery for Culture and Education, for a project focused on AI and labor. Christina received her doctorate from the University of Virginia in 2016, and before joining Boston College she taught at Creighton University for seven years. From 2020 to 2023 she was a Research Fellow in the Collaborative Inquiries in Christian Theological Anthropology project funded through the John Templeton Foundation. She also has experience leading low-income financial empowerment programming, including two years coordinating volunteer tax preparation sites with the Boston EITC Coalition.
