Biography
SuMing Sullivan (she/they), MSW, LICSW, is an adjunct faculty member at the Boston College School of Social Work. She is a clinical social worker and supervisor licensed in Massachusetts and New York and owner of a private practice in Arlington, MA. SuMing is a certified Emotionally Focused Therapist (EFT) and an EFT Supervisor-in-Training. She has expertise in culturally attuned attachment theory in practice. Her professional focus includes extensive work with Asian Americans, mixed-race adults, and couples with historical and relational trauma. This expertise has led her to pursue a doctorate in social work at the University of Pennsylvania, where her dissertation research explores the nuanced experiences of estrangement within Asian American families. Incorporating critical theory into both practice and academia, SuMing is dedicated to fostering a thorough understanding of social justice issues and providing vital support and advocacy in these areas to promote liberatory action. SuMing’s previous experience includes work as a medical social worker in the Emergency Department at Massachusetts General Hospital, a community mental health outpatient therapist at Atrius Health (formerly Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates), and a domestic violence advocate. She also has extensive experience working with Cambodian-American refugees and their descendants.
