Deeya Mitra

Biography
Deeya Mitra is a cultural-developmentalist with training in counseling psychology, and her research is grounded in the theory of emerging adulthood within a lifespan developmental framework. Her work examines life choices and developmental regulation during emerging adulthood (ages 18–29) and their long-term implications for well-being in understudied populations. She is currently conducting research with emerging adults in South Asia and a U.S.-based qualitative study exploring mental health experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the broader goal of advancing culturally informed understandings of development during this pivotal life period. Dr. Mitra also contributes to the field through professional service. She serves as the Early Career Representative for Division 1 of the American Psychological Association and as the Emerging Scholar Representative for the Society for the Study of Emerging Adulthood.
